This home is warm, inviting and very peaceful. Located on one acre it is in a dell surrounded by apple, pear, honeysuckle and spruce trees. It is a perfect back yard for croquet (which comes with the house!) an outdoor lobster fest on the picnic table and even a swing in the hammock. The house is 100 years old with many beautiful antiques and modern updates including the two bathrooms. The main bathroom downstairs features an air jet tub and the upstairs bathroom/laundry room leads onto a deck where a nighttime view of the rising moon is not to be missed. Lounge chairs are provided for that very purpose.
The house has 4 bedrooms: one with a queen size bed, two with double beds and one with two single beds - one of which is a Captains Bed built into the wall. Loads of fun for the kids to sleep and play in! (The other single bed is low to the ground and appropriate for a toddler. The living room has a beautiful Vermont Castings wood stove and wood is provided should you have a cool morning and need to warm up. Off the living room is a favorite space of many visitors: a small but beautiful "sun room" - formerly the old entrance to the house. It is great for a morning cup of tea and reading the paper. We also provide cards, backgammon and crokinole boards, scrabble and, for fun in the yard (along with the croquet) is a horseshoe set.
The house is equipped with Fibre Op Wireless Internet (and Cable TV) and the kitchen contains everything you will need for big or small dinners. Dishes for at least twelve settings, glasses galore, a popcorn popper and all utensils you will need. Stove, fridge, microwave and dish washer are included as is a propane bbq and an outdoor fire pit complete with grate for charcoal bbq'ing.
Herring Cove is blessed with several lakes in the nearby vicinity - the closest for a morning dip is only a one minute walk down the lane and the stunning Look Off/Cliff Walk, so popular with Haligonians looking to get away from it all, is just a five minute stroll up the road. Also, only a ten minute walk away is the popular Pavia Cafe and Gallery.
Aside from the fresh water swimming, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, cycling, kayaking, freshwater & deep sea fishing, whale watching, bird watching, sailing and even windsurfing. Only 20 minutes away is Halifax's most stunning beach - Crystal Crescent Provincial Beach & Park. The hikes around the Beach go on for miles with beautiful views.
This area, only a 20 minute drive from downtown Halifax, is also just around the corner from the National Historic Fort of York Redoubt and is a perfect base for you to explore the South Shore, the Annapolis Valley and the Eastern Shore.
I know you will love the house, love the area, love Halifax and the Province. Come and enjoy!
