Welcome to Carousel Condominiums and Marina at oceans edge on the east side of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. This is where the movie Carousel was filmed in 1956 starring Gordon McRae and Shirley Jones and just about everyone in town as extras. The original marina is still onsite for movie buffs but new condos were also built in the 90's. This complex includes all the excitement of an active marina below yet is quiet and restful.
Just down the street is the footbridge into downtown with its' quaint shops, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, candy shop and restaurants. The Opera House features entertainment in season and has something for everyone. You can choose to walk over the footbridge or take the trolley which makes frequent stops right in front of the condos. The trolley will take you all over Boothbay Harbor for a small fee so that you may get acquainted with all there is to offer.
There is even a movie theater offering first run movies possible because of its' proximity to Portland. Boothbay Harbor is a small town yet with all the comforts of big city living. You will feel pleasantly taken back in time by its' charm.
So much to offer you will be surprised. There are boat trips to Monhegan Island an artist colony. Why not pack a lunch and have a picnic on the island? Go on a clambake, harbor tour, lighthouse tour or a seal and outer island tour. If you are lucky enough to be at the condo in June there is the Tall Ship Festival where all the ships come into the harbor under full sail. Quite an impressive sight. That night there is a great fireworks display which you can watch from the deck while you enjoy snacks and drinks.
If you are an adventure driven person, there is kayaking small sailboat rentals and deep sea fishing.
To enhance your trip you can also take a drive further "up country" to the towns of Damariscotta , Rockport (home of Andre the seal), Thomaston and Camden home of the Windjammers.
If you just want some rest and relaxation there are some beautiful beaches on the Coast of Maine. Reed State Park just outside of Bath and
Popham Beach which was used for the filming of the movie "Message in a Bottle" with Paul Newman. After the beach you can explore Bath. The have the famous Renys stores which are a Maine legend. After that have an ice cream at Dairy Queen and head back.
Or you could sit with your coffee and take in the picture postcard view from the deck and watch the world go by. All in all , there is something for everyone you can't miss with a visit to picturesque beautiful Boothbay Harbor.
Just one step will take you into our one bedroom, one bath beautifully appointed top floor condo. It has all the amenities of home with refrigerator, stove, fan/microwave, dishwasher, dishes, silverware and linens. A washer/dryer is included in the condo. There is a gas grill on the dock of the marina should you wish to cook a steak, fish or hamburgers and hotdogs. The Whale's Tale restaurant is right there at the marina should you decide not to cook. Also, right next door is Brown's Wharf hotel and restaurant.
