THINGS TO DO

Cody is approximately 50 miles to the East Gate of Yellowstone which takes about 1 hour of driving time through the scenic North Fork Highway. The distance from Cody to Old Faithful, which is on the west side of the park, is ~120 miles and takes about 2.5 hours, not accounting for the many possible stops for park features and wildlife viewing you may wish to enjoy along the way.

Seasonal Note: most Park roads are CLOSED to auto travel between early November and late April. However, the road from the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through the park to Cooke City, Montana, via Tower Junction is open twenty-four hours a day, all year to auto travel, weather dependent. Visit the National Park Service website for current road status and oversnow options/requirements.

In summer, Cody is a great launching point for other scenic routes, such as the beautiful Sunlight Basin with Chief Joseph Highway, which goes through Cooke City to the Northeast Gate of the park (80 miles/1.75 hours) where the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone is. (Subject to seasonal and inclement road closures.)

If you just want to relax, there's a large front patio at the house with a grill and usually a good showing of the neighborhood rabbits in the yard, and perhaps an occasional deer. You can stargaze from here at night too.

It's a great home base to explore the area. Don't want to cook breakfast? Try Heritage Bakery...just steps away, or take a stroll to Sheridan Avenue and choose from numerous coffee shops and restaurants.

The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is a one mile, flat, easy walk. Other museums, music and performance venues and two cinemas are also within one mile. In downtown, the Cody Theatre shows art, indie and classic films. To the east is Big Horn Cinemas with four screens featuring new releases and current titles.

In the winter, there are a variety of sport and activity options. Snowboard and ski at Sleeping Giant (near Pahska) or Red Lodge Mountain (Montana). Ice skate or take in a Yellowstone Quake hockey game at the Riley Arena. Cross-country ski or ice climb. Or relax and enjoy the annual Turkey Day festivities, Christmas parade, and holiday open houses.

During the summer season, explore town with the Irma gunfight, miniature golf, a summer concert in the park series, art galleries, a weekly Farmer's Market, parades, and other special events.

Want to experience a unique piece of Wyoming and American history? Visit the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, a National Historic Landmark, located a short 12 mile drive east on Powell Highway (14A) where 14,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated for over 3 years following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Further east is the small town of Powell, where you can visit the Homesteader Museum for even more local history. Northwest College in Powell also offers talks, concerts, and other programs open to the public.

About 1.5 hours to the south is Thermopolis with its year-round hot springs. There are options to soak in both the free State Park pools (smaller, with time limits) or the fee-based Star Plunge which boasts a steam cave, a large indoor and outdoor pool, and slides plus water park features. A little past that is the beautiful Wind River Canyon that leads to the Boysen Reservoir, which all together makes for a good day trip.

Sign up with one of our many local outfitters for fishing, rafting, or sightseeing tours.

And of course, there is the Cody Nite Rodeo. Cody offers all of this and so much more!

EXTENDED STAY OPTIONS

Want to stay longer? The house is available furnished for short and long-term leases of 1-12 months. Please inquire for availability.

SPECIAL NOTES:

PARKING

The gravel driveway can accommodate 2-3 passenger vehicles end-to-end. Due to the steep angle of the entrance, the gravel drive is not suitable for low carriage vehicles, trailers, or towed vehicles. However, there is free street parking.

Note: No vehicles are allowed on the front cement patio; that space is for guests to relax and enjoy.

MOTORCYCLISTS

This home is in a quiet residential neighborhood. If your bike requires it, please keep warm up times to a minimum and refrain from revving. Thank you for your cooperation.

HUNTERS

No firearms or bow/arrows may be brought into the home (stored in a locked vehicle is ok) and cleaning/dressing of game is not permitted on the property. There is not a deep freezer available for meat storage.
