Saugerties Village; - 5 Minutes
Saugerties has cultivated an impressive yearly calendar of activities that keeps town constantly buzzing. There’s the annual Garlic Festival, Horses in The Sun (HITS), the Mum Festival, a wonderful 4th of July Parade and Fireworks display, an antique car show, and a seasonal weekly farmer’s market. But you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy yourself in Saugerties. The Cantine Field Complex has an ice rink, baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds and picnic areas; it’s the envy of the area. There's also a triplex, old-school movie theatre right in the village and of course the area provides some of the best 'antiquing' in the country.
Saugerties offers a unique environment for outdoorsy types. Public and private access to both the Hudson River and the Esopus Creek for swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, and waterskiing. There’s a town beach on the Hudson right in the village. Spend a perfect sunny day with the kids swimming and walk up the hill for some Ice Cream and BBQ.
Woodstock; - 15 Minutes
The surrounding areas provide the unsurpassed beauty of Mother Nature. The Catskill mountains, streams, lakes and waterfalls release the creativity in all who reside here - from local tradespeople (stone masons and furniture makers) to the artists (screenwriters, composers, actors, printmakers, painters, photographers, filmmakers, poets, novelists) and of course our beloved musicians – from the not so famous, to the those whose recordings most likely shuffle in your iTunes, to just "us regular folk" who thrive being surrounded by all this amazing energy. It is this laid-back convergence, which gives Woodstock New York its individuality.
